Bridges

Bridges are a permanent fixed solution to spaces or missing teeth when a patient does not want or can not wear a denture.

Bridges are essentially several crowns joined together so the procedure is very similar to the crown preparation procedure.

They are made of porcelain or porcelain fused to metal so that the bridge will be able to support the natural functions of the mouth.

Types of Bridges

1. Fixed- fixed bridges :

The teeth on either side of the space are prepared as for crowns and the missing tooth is attached onto both the “crowns”.

2. Cantilever Bridges:

These are for smaller spaces and where there is not excessive loading and involve using only one support tooth for the bridge.

3. Resin bonded bridges:

These bridges have metal or porcelain wings which are bonded onto your existing teeth and involve minimal preparation.

Your dentist will advise you on which bridge type is most suitable for you.
